Taylor Alexandra Milano
I was born on August 26, 1993 in Brooklyn, NY where I spent the first five years of my life. Once my youngest brother was born, my parents decided to move us out to Long Island in the suburbs. We ended up in a town on the south shore of Long Island just minutes from the ocean; Massapequa.
When I was 15 years old, I wanted to be an actress. I spoke to my guidance counselor about possibly going to college majoring in Theatre. This is what I wanted to do. I wanted to act and be on stage, I wanted to perform. In my junior year of high school, I took a journalism class. I have always loved to write, but I've always been a more creative writing type of person. After I took this class, I knew journalism was what I wanted to do. I wanted to be the next Lara Spencer on Good Morning America. I wanted to find a great story, and report it to the world. But here was the kicker, I wanted to report entertainment news. I have always been intrigued by the entertainment world because it is constantly changing. I wanted to let the world know the newest blockbuster to hit theater's, I wanted to report LIVE! on the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards. There was once a time where I wanted to be the one walking on the Red Carpet. It wasn't until I realized that broadcast journalism combines two of my loves: writing and performing. I began to research Communication programs at various colleges. My number one choice was Arizona State University. I fell in love with the campus and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. This is where I belonged. I wasn't until I found myself at a college fair at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island that I walked past the Penn State University booth. I spoke to the representative and knew I had to apply. Penn State's College of Communications looked too good to be true, and I had to be apart of it. ASU seemed like a fog at this point. A month later, my Penn State Harrisburg acceptance letter came in the mail. I was going to spend two years at the Harrisburg campus, and two years at the main campus, University Park. Jump five years into the future, and here I am. 21 years old and a senior majoring in Broadcast Journalism, minoring in Theatre at Penn State. I couldn't be more happy with the decision I have made. I have been able to be apart of such amazing organizations involving broadcasting. I am currently a host on a show on the Penn State Television Network (PSNtv) called "The U". I am a crew member for another show on the network called PSU Matchmaker. I also just finished an internship with Forever Broadcasting in State College, where I got to learn the radio side of broadcasting. I am also the Media and Marketing officer of my THON organization, which is the largest student run philanthropy in the world that raises money for children with cancer. I am learning what I want to learn, and I am looking forward to the future where I can do what I love to do for a living. |
